God’s Law to be Written on the Mind and Heart
The great original copy of God’s law is contained in heaven’s sanctuary, the “true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man” (Hebrews 8:2). However, God wants His divine law written on human minds and hearts as well. “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people” (Hebrews 8:10). This covenant, or promise, of God reveals His deepest desire for every person—that they will choose to let Him forgive and cleanse them of sin, and write the principles of His law on their minds and hearts. When this happens, obedience to God becomes something natural. As Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). This is a promise much more than a command. When we love God, we will want to do the things that make Him happy. This obedience includes a cheerful observation of the seventh-day Sabbath, referred to in the Fourth Commandment.
